Act Like The Barber

A few days before every one of my motivational speeches and musical performances, I always go to the barber shop to get a fresh cut. Going to the barber before every show turned into a habitual occurrence due to very powerful words of wisdom a street hustler told me which was, “Make sure you look good when you do business because when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good, and when you do good, you meet good people, and when you do business with good people, you make good money.”

So before every motivational event, it’s imperative that my personal stylist hooks me up, and that I visit a local barber in whichever city I’m in at the time for a good line up. If you’ve ever gone to the real city barbershops like the ones I always end up in, then you know that your barber will be taking extra long with your cut due to the fact that he’ll be too busy in heated debates with the other barbers over something sports or world news related.

This one barber however began talking about his life and aspirations, and I will share his words with you since they are so crucial to your progression within your pursuits. This is what the barber said…

“Bro I can’t see how people just be chilling and waiting for success and this money to come to them. Anybody who waits for it ain’t ever gonna reach it. I can’t expect these goals to come to me, I need to be working like crazy and being smart with my moves. Honestly I tell you, I’m going to open up my own 24 hour barbershop. Those college kids be going to the clubs around twelve one o clock in the morn, and you know they could use a late night cut right before they hit the club. I don’t even sleep bro, I’m always thinking about progress and making moves.

Too many of these cats out here make excuses for everything. It’s like they’re scared to put in all the hard work it takes to be successful and get that paper. If you working hard for your dough, that’s not greedy. Being greedy in my opinion is when you want the dough but you don’t want to work for it. Put me in my 24 hour shop and I will live there. Forget balling. Forget stunting. If I’m making a living doing what I love to do 24/7, I’d be an ass not to appreciate that. These young cats need to get their priorities straight.

They see the bling, cars, and all that these tv rappers preach, and they’re so blind to what life is all about. They looking for that fast money and getting nowhere fast because they’re so lazy. Not me though I gotta go hard. Anyone of us could die right now. I could accidently cut this guys head off and then slip and fall on scissors or something (believe I started getting nervous when he said this). Only thing that matters is what we’re doing right now, we gotta make the most of it.”

He was done with my line up at that moment. I was so impressed with what he said that I asked him to come work for me. :) It is important to act like this barber if you truly wish to progress. Be innovative. Work hard. Work harder. Appreciate what you have. Get your priorities straight. Go out and go after what you want, don’t wait for anything to come to you. Don’t expect favors from anyone. Be self reliant. Don’t make excuses. Don’t try. Trying doesn’t exist. You either do it or you don’t. So just do it.

American Educational System New Slavery For Minority Students?

NO part of this is to spark ignorance. This is intended to bring awareness to reality.
_____________________________________________________
Why is it that the majority of minority students subconsciously get nervous around police officers? We are pursuing our education in order to be successful contributors to our society, we have nothing to hide, but yet we still cringe and put our guards up when we see white police officers. Why is it that the majority of minority parents and grandparents subconsciously do the same thing? Take a good second to think about that.

I had a serious conversation a few days ago with two black businessmen in their forties. We were discussing many deep insights on a harsh reality of the educational system in respects to minority students. As I told them my story of how I was brutalized and harassed by white police officers on college campus, they both drifted down memory lane and began telling stories of their own unfortunate experiences. I can't include hours of conversation within this writing, but I will provide you with a few Golden Rules which sums up the main points of our discussion.

Black n Golden Rule #1- Racism Still Exists.

To think that it doesn't exist is foolish. There are people in this world who believe they are more superior solely because of the color of their skin. Being black still does put you a few steps behind the line of progression. To know this golden rule does not mean you should be ignorant towards others. Two wrongs don't make anything right. Just be aware and let it motivate you to do your best at all times, knowing that as a minority, you truly does have to work ten times harder and be ten times smarter than others, just to be successful.

Black n Golden Rule #2- Knowledge is the Ultimate Power.

SLAVES WERE NOT ALLOWED TO READ. If they learned how, they would become more knowledgeable, educated, and would revolt, which turned out to be what happened. But somehow, we're still falling. Many young black kids these days think being smart is 'uncool'. Nerds are ridiculed. Mainstream hip hop/rap and even r&b music are doing more damage than good. High school students are not being taught and adequately prepared for the real world, and independence isn't nurtured. Drugs, sex, and parties seem to be more of a concentration with current college students than that of careers and the value of knowledge. And somehow...the ones who feel the most pain and get the shortest end of the stick are minorities. Who's to blame? What do we do about it?

Black n Golden Rule #3- WE Can Make A Difference.

My high school guidance counselor never told me or any of my black friends anything beneficial to our futures. All she said was, "Pick a college and go." Because our past ancestors fought for our freedom, racist individuals can't be so blunt with their tactics. What better way to destroy a dream than to attack it while it's still in school pursuing an education. Knowledge is power, so to harass and brutalize students in an attempt to have them quit on their dreams, misguide them throughout their educational pursuit by not feeding them beneficial information, brainwash them with irrelevant music and a party, sex, drug lifestyle, imprison as many blacks as possible for any little reason, would all actually contribute to being the perfect form of new slavery. Times are getting worse, but we can make a positive difference. The problem is my young generation needs to first realize that we're in a hole before we can crawl out of it. The question is...what are you going to do about it?
